Summary

I Regional Summit of Methane: Building Consensus to Reduce Emissions in the Oil and Gas Sector

The first Regional Methane Summit for Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Bogotá in August 2024, represented a turning point in the region’s efforts to address one of the most pressing challenges of climate change: reducing methane emissions in the oil and gas sector.

It brought together stakeholders playing a fundamental role in the energy transition and the decarbonization of our economies: governments, companies and international observatories, business chambers, NGOs, and academic institutions.

The event demonstrated that addressing international decarbonization commitments and the challenges of the energy transition is essential for all stakeholders across the value chain in order to advance in a coordinated manner toward reducing these emissions.

Through OEMLAC, OLACDE achieved a regional milestone by addressing one of the most urgent challenges of climate change: reducing methane emissions in the oil and gas sector.

Strategic Alliance with ARPEL

This alliance was formalized through a cooperation agreement that establishes ARPEL as a strategic partner of OEMLAC and enables joint projects, studies, events, and training activities.

The I Regional Summit of Methane took the first step toward more coordinated regional action to reduce emissions in Latin America and the Caribbean, consolidating shared priorities and paving the way for effective responses to the climate crisis.
