Session

Institutional Architectures for Methane Governance: From Legal Frameworks to Implementation

Topic: 1. Governance and Institutional Architecture for Methane Mitigation
Session information

As the methane agenda advances across Latin America and the Caribbean, countries face the challenge of translating commitments, regulations, and national roadmaps into effective and sustained implementation.

The session will address how to strengthen institutional capacities, coordinate responsibilities across energy, environment, regulation, and territorial governance, and prioritize mitigation measures within increasingly complex energy systems.

It will also incorporate a technical perspective on abatement potential and the costs of different measures across the oil and gas value chain, helping guide regulatory priorities and implementation strategies.

The panel will bring together perspectives from governments, regulators, and international organizations to exchange experiences on interinstitutional coordination, regulatory design, territorial implementation, and the sustainability of public policies.
