
María Elena Huertas is the co-executive director of POLEN Just Transitions in Colombia, a think tank and action center in Colombia that works to ensure a just, planned, and economically viable energy transition in Colombia and Latin America through energy democratization and the progressive elimination of dependence on fossil fuels. María Elena earned her PhD in Engineering Sciences with an emphasis on air quality modeling, and her professional career has focused on developing projects that support scientifically based environmental policies related to climate, air quality, and energy transition. She is currently working on the relationship between coal mining and methane in Colombia.
