The methane mitigation agenda in the energy sector has historically focused on oil and gas. However, new measurement, monitoring, and analytical capabilities are expanding attention toward other sources linked to energy systems.
In this context, a key question emerges for Latin America and the Caribbean: how can new methane sources be incorporated into the region’s energy and climate strategies while considering their technical characteristics and management opportunities?
The session will bring together experiences related to coal mining, hydroelectric reservoirs, and energy recovery through biogas. Through these cases, the panel will analyze the evolution of measurement methodologies, management approaches, and opportunities for energy valorization.
The discussion aims to provide a practical perspective on how these experiences can strengthen mitigation strategies, energy efficiency, and resource utilization within an increasingly integrated energy transition.
