
Erika Ortiz is the Decarbonization and Green Energy Development Manager at the Institute for Development, Energy and Environment (IDEA), where she coordinates projects in Mitigation, Transportation, Oil and Gas, and Economics and Trade, as well as the development of proposals and strategic alliances with public, private, and civil society stakeholders to promote evidence-based solutions for a just energy transition.
Previously, she worked at the Mexico Climate Initiative (ICM), leading projects in transportation, mitigation, and oil and gas, where she promoted the creation of the Mexican Methane Emissions Observatory (OBMEM). She has also collaborated with international organizations such as Energy Innovation, the UK Department for Energy and Climate Change, USAID, and the Inter-American Development Bank on energy modeling and cost-benefit analysis for mitigation strategies.
In the public sector, she participated in the Ministry of Energy in the design of natural gas policies, including storage, pipeline capacity management, system planning, and regulatory development. She holds a degree in economics from UNAM and has training in social impact and energy systems from FLACSO, RENAC, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Tufts University. She has over 15 years of experience and numerous publications.
